Charlotte Behavioral Health Care, serving the behavioral and substance abuse needs of Charlotte County, announced the opening of a new office in Port Charlotte in late November, 2012. The main campus is located at 1700 Education Ave Punta Gorda and the new location Northside Psychiatric Services, is open at 1032 Tamiami Trail Port Charlotte, FL 33953 in the Murdock Town Center. Northside Psychiatric Services a division of Charlotte Behavioral Health Care will continue to provide Charlotte County and now Sarasota County residents with programs and services in an array of expert care.

With opening a new office, CBHC is able to accommodate the growing need for children’s behavioral and mental health services in northern Charlotte County and south Sarasota County areas. The expansion of this new location better meets the needs of current and future consumers in our community.

Fees for services are based on a sliding scale with income verification required.  Private health  insurance, Value Options, Medicaid and  Medicare assignments are also accepted when applicable.

Our History

Chartered in June, 1968 through the efforts of the Mental Health Association of Charlotte County and Mrs. Leona Vrancken, Charlotte Community Mental Health Services began offering services in June, 1969 with a small staff of 7 – 5 therapists and 2 support staff and a simple mission – to provide free or low cost mental health services to the residents of Charlotte County. In 2006, Charlotte Community Mental Health Services changed it name to Charlotte Behavioral Health Care to better reflect the additional programs and services it offers to our community.  Today with staffing of over 200 professionals – psychiatrists, licensed mental health counselors, psychologists, nursing team of RNs, ARNPs and LPN, support services of technicians, case managers, coaches and an administrative staff we continue to provide quality, compassionate and expert care.  Our main campus is located on 40 acres in Punta Gorda, FL. Our newest treatment facility, the CBHC Recovery Center opened its doors in November, 2008 to provide inpatient detox and residential chemical and alcohol addiction treatment.

Accreditation

Charlotte Behavioral Health Care underwent its’ fourth accreditation review by the nationally recognized and highly respected CARF (Commission for Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities).  CARF accreditation indicates CBHC’s commitment to continually improving treatment serices, encouraging feedback, and serving the community.  CBHC’s programs and services received the highest possible level of accreditation.
